Gifted and Growing
Gifted Counseling, Gifted Coaching, and Improv Comedy
Here’s a little more about
I help gifted people hone their directions, craft effective ways forward, and implement strategies and mindsets for success. Most of the neuromajority’s tools and norms just don’t fit for gifted outliers. Your intensities have to be integrated into your pursuits, and you are best served by a coach who gets what it means to reside in the third standard deviation and beyond.
I help people clearly understand their giftedness and how to align what they do with who they are. You can get clear on your values, passions, and talents, launching yourself into greater integrity and happiness. Your gifted conscientiousness, perfectionism, and sensitivities are characteristics that you can bring to bear on moving into a better future.
I’ve been on my own gifted journey, and I understand my own gifted development. I’m a licensed mental health clinician and coach with over twenty years of experience. I can keep up with you, and I won’t pathologize your gifted characteristics. I have a track record of success.
I do this work because I am passionate about helping gifted people grow into themselves, liberate themselves from old stories about what was possible, and launch into lives of fulfillment, connection, and excellence.
I offer a free 20 minute consultation, so we can get to know each other a little bit and discern whether I’ll be a good fit for your counseling needs
Here’s a little more about
Wait, what?!? Yes, Improv. 100% supportive, affirmative, and spontaneous, Improv Groups give gifted adolescents and adults a unique way to be in community and discover themselves. Being in the moment, doing away with perfectionism, trusting yourself and others – Improv is an amazing step in gifted self-development.
Back when COVID hit, I researched ways to establish deep intimacy quickly in online spaces. Second City Comedy offered an Improv class. I took it. I was hooked. Fast forward to today. I have become an Improv Comedy instructor and fanatic. So much so that I am also an Ensemble Member of the Improv Therapy Group. Along with Lisa Bany, an Improv instructor with Second City for thirty years, each group session is made up of 75 minutes of structured improv games, easy to learn and endless fun to play. Group cohorts run four or eight weeks, and many groups choose to extend their cohort together.
A member of one of our cohorts said, “It’s fun, silly, challenging, nerve-wracking, and uncomfortable… what’s not to love?”
Other thoughts from participants: “It has been a low-pressure way to get to know a fascinating group of people, and bring back some play and laughter into my life.”
“I am loving the light hearted supportive nature of being in community with laughter and encouraged play.”
“What have I gained? A laugh: some of what the other participants have said is hilarious. Some informal mirroring too – someone asked ‘was that too much?’ I got that sentiment immediately. I love watching how people’s minds work – and it’s a treat watching gifted peers do that too.”
In partnership with Improv Therapy Group, I am offering weekly Improv Comedy Group experiences. Hop over and have a look. If the next start date isn’t listed yet, know that we normally begin the next cohort two weeks after the prior one finishes.
I also offer one-off workshops for your conferences, meetings, family reunions, and whatever other applications you can imagine. Improv lends itself to most any group experience. It’ll get people happy, loose, bonded, and creative. Contact me, and we’ll do it!
It is fun. I mean, fun! Imagine laughing and playing with a dozen other gifted people, all of whom are fully supportive and fully present. It’s raw magic, and I look forward to meeting you in that space soon.
The good news is that I can do either. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Professional Coach specializing in working with gifted adolescents, adults, and families, you can get exactly what you need. Many of my clients begin with counseling and then transition to coaching upon resolution of the things that brought them in the first place. Others commence coaching, recognize that counseling is a necessary step, and switch gears.
I offer free 20 minute consultations, so we can get to know each other a little and to discern how/whether I can be helpful.
For those clients who are in counseling with someone and want to explore a coaching relationship alongside their counseling process, we can have a consultation and determine whether to pursue coaching
I am licensed to practice counseling only in the state of North Carolina. I am disallowed from practicing counseling in the other states and territories of the USA. My counseling licensure restrictions do not extend beyond national borders.
